As a new law on making abortion illegal is debated in the Polish parliament, all over Europe , polish women demonstrated to show their anger and opposition to the law. The right wing conservative government, with the tacit support of the Polish catholic church, want to make abortion illegal, except for the most extreme cases. Jail sentences of up to 5 years are to be applied. Doctors and health professionals also are also included, as they will make the diagnosis on the case. Other areas will include sex education for children and adolescents.

The #BlackMonday “Polish women on strike! For dignity and human rights” started on the lawn of Parliament square, with a protest and picnic. Paulina Palian, one of the co founders of “Polish Feminists”, gave interviews and a speech to the assembled supporters. At 18:00 they reassembled in front of the Polish Embassy, on Portland Place. After speeches and chants to the closed windows of the building, a performing artist, Laura Gwen Miles, gave a powerful performance on the theme of abortion and birth. The protest then moved on to the BBC building.

The Parliament has rejected the bill.
