In collaboration with Footprints Press, we are publishing a 220 page photo-book of my work from 1989 to 2017. The first section of the book pictures the Fall of the Berlin Wall and some of the repercussions throughout Eastern Europe resulting in the breakup of the USSR. The second section of the book concentrates on the EU: the Catalonian referendum results and Brexit. I am aiming to match fund the commitment from the publisher FootPrints Press for the printing and shipping costs.
With Brexit on the front page of every news outlet, I am revisiting another point in time on the European continent where political upheaval changed the course of history.

During the fall of the Berlin wall and the breakup of the USSR I lived in Berlin and covered some of the aftermath of this momentous event from there. In former Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, (1989-90) the Bosnian civil war (1992), Georgia and Azerbaijan (1993), I documented the upheavals, conflicts, people and power brokers. Fast forward two decades and I again photographed two major events within the EU: the Catalonian referendum and the UK referendum resulting in Brexit.
This book, EU – USSR, plots how the breakup of the Soviet Union in the 1980’s and 90’s prompted a resurgence of nationalism, ethnic tensions and territorial ambitions across multiple countries. If the EU were to disintegrate, these same ideological forces could reignite conflicts in Europe that have been held in check by its creation.

EU – USSR considers the consequences of the break up of the USSR and, through reflection, the perspectives that can be gleaned and applied to the EU lest we should we forget.
